Slaters was recently nominated for the Evening Times Favourite Business Award (a fact they ram home with the many posters about the store) but spend a bit of time there and you can see why. Selling everything from causal wear to formal suits, the staff are friendly and professional while giving a personal service not often in seen in Glasvegas. We went in for a causal shirt and trousers and were made to feel quite at ease, and were even recommended to not wear the shirt we chose because it didn’t look right – definitely a case where the customer may always be right, but they shouldn’t look silly while they are.
Alterations are free too (we needed the trousers taken up), and you leave feeling you’ve made the right purchase, though its not the cheapest place we’ve been to, but you’re paying for the quality and service. Recommended.
A lovely post, and as others have mentioned before, very insightful, thoughtful and educational. It was a pleasure to read your thoughts about Mr. Simons' incredible journey and its reflection of and effect on fashion and culture. Thank you for taking the the time and great care to write this article.
ReplyDeleteMy only comment is with regards to your fleeting dig at "(pinstripe suit wearing) bankers." Like fashion, finance and our world economy are extraordinarily complex beasts, with almost innumberable players pulling almost innumerable levers... We all play a part in this giant machine, compelled by Smith's 'invisible hand.' To suggest that this unfortunate economic crisis was "largely brought onto us by" a single party is too easy an explanation for this complicated puzzle. Personally, I cringe when I hear these prevasive, negative generalizations about professionals in finance (e.g. malignant money counters looking to squeeze every penny out of main street), as I imagine you cringe when people suggest professionals in fashion are all airheaded, superficial bimbos. Anyway, I'm sure you've deduced my line of work at this point, and that this has been a perception I've had to battle tooth and nail against, so I beg your forgiveness for going on!
